Commentary on the Jupiter Millennium Flyby (2000.10.11)

Very cool. Jupiter Millennium Flyby.

“Galileo [will] embark on a joint scientific expedition with another solar system explorer, the Saturn-bound Cassini spacecraft” (from a NASA press release).

Two probes observing the Jovian system at the same time... very cool. I even found amusing what they say in the press release at the bottom about how they won’t crash Galileo into Europa because of the possiblity that life might exist there in the possible ocean underneath Europa’s surface of ice. How do you like that... NASA is following Star Trek’s Prime Directive.
